Progress on the Chinsali Access Road rehabilitation project has accelerated significantly, with the contractor clearing a major hurdle by procuring the long-awaited bitumen needed for asphalt surfacing.
Government, through the Road Development Agency (RDA), engaged China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co. Ltd. to carry out the works on this road.
To date, the contractor has completed 10 kilometres of roadbed formation, constructed 10 in-situ reinforced concrete box culverts, and stabilised 3.5 kilometres of the upper subbase. Construction of the base course is set to commence next week.
Muchinga Provincial Administration has noted improvement in the pace of works over the past two months, attributing the momentum to the contractor’s increased commitment to meeting project objectives.
Beyond infrastructure development, the project is delivering direct economic benefits to the local community. Approximately 180 workers from Chinsali District have been employed on the project, providing a boost to household incomes and the local economy.
The Muchinga Provincial Administration has pledged to continue monitoring the project to ensure it meets the required quality standards and is completed within the contractual timeframe.
The total cost of the project stands at over ZMK 238 million. Once finished, the upgraded road is expected to significantly improve accessibility and connectivity for the people of Chinsali District.
