Mpika residents have received fresh assurances that the long-stalled Michael Chilufya Sata General Hospital in Mpika district will be completed, following confirmation that government has retendered the project.

Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Tuesday Bwalya acknowledged that the hospital, originally designed as a three-phased project, only saw the completion of Phase One. This initial phase delivered only the administration block and staff offices before construction works ground to a halt.

“Instead of having the initial three phases, the construction works stalled at Phase One,” Dr. Bwalya stated.

The PS confirmed that the Ministry of Health has now retendered the construction project. With this development, Phase Two is expected to commence soon, to be followed by Phase Three, which will include the construction of staff houses.

Dr. Bwalya assured residents that government is committed to expediting the works so that Michael Chilufya Sata General Hospital can be completed just like any other health facility in the country.

He emphasized that once finished according to its complete design, the hospital will significantly expand its capacity to accommodate and serve more patients in the region.
