Permanent Secretary for Muchinga Province Dr. Tuesday Bwalya has commended the transformative impact of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), stating it is instrumental in bringing health services closer to the people and achieving presidential priorities.

Dr. Bwalya made the remarks today during a tour of health facilities to assess their operations. He visited Kalalantekwe Mini Hospital, Mukungwa Health Post, and Mukwikile Health Post.

During his inspection of the ongoing construction of a Maternity Annex and an ablution block at Mukwikile Rural Health Post, the PS emphasized that infrastructure expansion is critical for maternal health. He noted that government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, is committed to reducing maternal mortality to fewer than 75 deaths per 100,000 live births.

“One of the key factors to achieve this target is by improving and expanding infrastructure such as maternity annexes and mothers’ shelters,” Dr. Bwalya stated.

The PS also took time to appreciate the completed Mukungwa Rural Health Post, which was similarly constructed using CDF. He expressed satisfaction that all the facilities he visited had above 80 percent availability of essential drugs.

Dr. Bwalya reaffirmed that government remains focused on decentralizing services, highlighting that the health facilities visited have successfully brought medical services directly to the community.

Muchinga Province is located in the northeast of the country and was created in the year 2011 after detaching it from mother province – Northern Province. The name of the province originates from the Muchinga Escarpment; on which it predominantly sits. The province elongates from southwest to northeast and is located on both sides of the Muchinga Mountains (Muchinga Escarpment).
