LUSAKA, March 3, 2026 – SmartCare Pro, a digital health management system, is transforming service delivery at a Lusaka health facility, with patients reporting significantly shorter waiting times and health workers citing improved diagnostic accuracy, officials say.
Civic Centre Clinic, one of several facilities across Zambia now using SmartCare Pro, has recorded marked operational improvements since adopting the electronic system, according to Facility In Charge Sonia Katakwa.
Ms Katakwa said the platform has eliminated the need for bulky physical patient files, a longstanding challenge given the clinic’s limited storage space. Record keeping is now faster and more secure, reducing data loss while cutting patient wait times.
Medical Licentiate Tinei Mutami noted that the system has streamlined clinical workflows by supporting diagnosis and drug dosage decisions through its preloaded medical database, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in patient care.
Nurse Sharon Muchimba, a certified trainer for the platform, said she has trained more than 50 health professionals from Lusaka, Copperbelt and Eastern provinces to use the system effectively.
Patients have also welcomed the change. Constance Mushukulumbwe said she now completes her clinic visits in a fraction of the time, no longer spending an entire day waiting for services.
Bruce Maliti, on the other hand highlighted the system’s interoperability, which allows his medical records to be accessed by health professionals at other facilities nationwide where the electronic platform is operational.
The rollout of SmartCare Pro forms part of broader efforts to digitise Zambia’s health sector, strengthen data management and improve overall service delivery.
