Muchinga Province, Zambia β April 14, 2025 β The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, through the Department of National Registration, Passport, and Citizenship, has officially commenced the 2025 National Mobile Registration Exercise in Muchinga Province. The exercise, which began with orientation on April 10, 2025, will run for 90 days in two phases of 45 days each, ensuring nationwide coverage.
The mobile registration aims to provide National Registration Cards (NRCs) to eligible citizens aged 16 and above, particularly those in district centres and far-flung rural areas. The NRC serves as a critical identity document required for:
– Obtaining a Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN)
– Opening bank accounts
– Registering for Grade 12 examinations
– Applying for jobs, driving licenses, votersβ cards, and passports
– Accessing socio-economic amenities such as Social Cash Transfer, Constituency Development Funds (CDF), FISP, and disaster relief services.
Muchinga Provincial Administration has issued a stern warning against the issuance of NRCs to foreign nationals. Law enforcement agencies and traditional leaders have been mobilized to ensure only eligible Zambian citizens are registered. Officers found aiding foreigners in acquiring NRCs will face legal consequences under the National Registration Act (Cap 126).
Additionally, all registration officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and discipline. Corruption, misconduct, or unauthorized sharing of information, including on social media will result in immediate withdrawal from the exercise and punitive measures.
Citizens are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain their NRCs, which are essential for participating in national activities, including the upcoming 2026 General Elections. The government has directed all district offices to remain open throughout the week, including weekends, to facilitate accessibility.
Community leaders, including church officials, traditional authorities, and the media, are encouraged to support public sensitization efforts on the importance of the exercise.
