
30 New Community-Based Health Volunteers employed In Lavushimanda District
Lavushimanda, February 12, 2025. Government has employed 30 new Community-Based Health Volunteers in Lavushimanda District in Muchinga Province.
District Health Director (DHD) Rodrigue Kamunga stated that the newly employed Community-Based Health Volunteers have been put on a monthly salary for a one-year performance-based contract, which is renewable.
Dr. Kamunga was speaking yesterday at a training workshop for the 30 Community Based Health Volunteers held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Sub- Parish Hall in Mpumba area within the district.
The DHD added that the Community-Based Health Volunteers will be spread in all the health facilities across the district.
“We were expecting 31 Community-Based Health Volunteers but one did not show up so we are training these 30 to equip them with knowledge on various health issues and note that these will be getting a monthly salary”, he said.
And Community Health Officer at Mpumba Health Office, Jehoiackim Chabu explained that the 30 Community Based Health Volunteers are being trained in basic health care services at community level such as Malaria and Diarrhea management, reproductive health and skills such as mobilization of community members among other services.
Mr. Chabu added that the training also encompasses knowledge on neglected tropical diseases such as bilharzia and providing HIV/AIDS services and nutrition so that they also deliver such knowledge to the community.
“These are the people that will help us in the prevention of Tuberculosis and Leprosy in our communities because they will be the nurses in the community as they have been trained with basic knowledge on various issues and they will now go to practice in their various communities,” he said.
And speaking when he officiated at the training workshop, Lavushimanda District Commissioner, Terris Kunda said Government remains committed in providing quality health care services closer to the people as evidenced by the employment of the 30 Community-Based Health Volunteers who will be based right in the communities among other initiatives.
Mr. Kunda said he is sure that the trained newly deployed volunteers will deliver their services effectively to the communities where they will be working from.
He urged them to refrain from bad vices that will jeopardize their work.
“I’m sure that the training you have received has equipped you with the necessary knowledge to be used out there as government continues to provide quality health care services to all Zambians, so you have a huge responsibility ahead of you,” he said.
And District Administrative Officer, Maurice Kabanda urged the volunteers to uphold the civil service code of ethics as they execute their duties.
He reminded them that any person who will be found abrogating the law will be dealt with accordingly.
“Since you will be working in these health facilities, you are now Government workers on a salary so follow the guidelines of the civil service code of ethics because if you don’t do that, a whip will follow you,” he said.
And speaking on behalf of other Community based Health Volunteers, Enos Kashili thanked Government for employing the youths in the area.
He added that the act will assist reduce on unemployment levels in the area and also substance and drugs abuse by most young people because they will now be kept busy with work.
“I thank President Hakainde Hichilema for considering us youths with these jobs and I can assure you that we will deliver our services accordingly,” he said.
