RATS CAUSE CHAOS AT DC’s OFFICE AS SZI TEAMS IS CALLED TO RESTORE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY
CHINSALI, Jan 22nd, 2025—In a bizarre incident, rats have caused a month-long network outage at the Chinsali district commissioner’s office block in Muchinga Province.
The rodents chewed through network cables, disrupting critical government services and bringing administrative work to a standstill.
Principal ICT Officer Mr FRANCIS SANGALE HACHOOMBWA explained that a team from SMART Zambia has been deployed to revamp the network, a process expected to take 4-5 days.
“The team will redo the entire Local Area Network (LAN) to ensure reliable connectivity and prevent future disruptions, “he said.
“The team is working tirelessly to ensure that all government offices have reliable and secure internet connectivity.”
Mr HACHOOMBWA stressed that in a bid to prevent future rodent-related disruptions, SMART Zambia has engaged the local authority to fumigate the offices.
“This measure is aimed at eliminating the rodent infestation and protecting the network infrastructure.”
This effort is part of SMART Zambia’s mandate to digitize all government institutions and maintain the Government Wide Area Network (GWAN) in all districts.
In line with its mandate, SMART Zambia is committed to providing reliable and efficient ICT services to all government institutions, and this effort is a testament to that commitment.
