Isoka, August 26, 2024, ZANIS—The Government has successfully completed the distribution of 3,000 x 50kg bags of relief maize, totaling 150 metric tonnes in Isoka District in Muchinga Province.

The initiative, overseen by the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and implemented by the Society for Women and Aids in Zambia (SWAAZ), catered to all 14 wards in the district.

Out of the 3,000 bags received, 2,379 have been distributed under the food-for-work component of the relief operation, while 603 bags were provided for free to the most vulnerable individuals.

The remaining 18 bags were distributed to those in extreme need, along with other essential items such as beans, cooking oil, sugar, salt, soya chunks, and dates.

Isoka District Commissioner Jairo Simbeye expressed his satisfaction with the successful distribution process.

He explained to the beneficiaries how the government ensured equitable distribution across the district, emphasising the importance of reaching every household that is in need.

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure that every vulnerable person in Isoka receives the relief they desperately need,” he said.

And Mr Wezzy Singongo, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the government for the relief maize.

“My house just got burnt, and I lost everything, including my money and maize. This relief has come at the right time,” he said.

Charity Namposya also thanked the government for the timely intervention, while Ednah Namukonda, whose house was also destroyed by fire, extended her gratitude to the government through the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.
