Kanchibiya, June 28, 2024, ZANIS—The construction of a modern maternity annex at Chikakala Health Post in Kanchibiya district has been completed and is ready to be commissioned for use.

The maternity annex has been constructed at a cost K893,161 using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) maternity and fulfils the presidential directive to local authorities to build the facilities in a bid to enhance maternal health and reduce deaths of expecting mothers.

Kanchibiya Town Council Public Relations Officer Joan Zulu has confirmed the completion of the modern maternity annex.

And the Kanchibiya Town Council Secretary Joseph Zulu has described the construction of the maternity annex as a significant infrastructure development that is proof to the council’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the residents.

Mr Zulu explained that the maternity annex will cater for the growing healthcare needs of the community, providing a safe and comfortable environment for expectant mothers to receive prenatal care, deliver their babies, and post-natal care.

“The new maternity annex is a reflection of our commitment to improving the overall health and wellbeing of our residents. We believe that every mother deserves access to quality healthcare, and this facility will help us achieve that goal,” he said.

The maternity wing was constructed by a local contractor, Polo Technologies, and the council secretary has thanked the government and everyone involved in bringing the construction works to completion.

“We are grateful to the government and other stakeholders who have supported this project from its inception,” added Mr. Zulu. “Their support has enabled us to complete this project on time and within budget.”
