THE Local authority in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province says the upgrading and rehabilitation of township roads within the Central Business District (CBD) has reached over 60% completion. Chinsali Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Lolavye Simukoko says the upgrading and rehabilitation of approximately 29.5 kilometers (km) of selected township roads in Chinsali district which is being undertaken by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is now over 60% completion.
Mr Simukoko disclosed the development to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in a press statement this morning. “The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is the implementing agency, whereas Bari Zambia Limited is the Project Consultant and Kailjee Construction Zambia Limited is the main contractor,” He said.
He adds that Kailjee is currently on site and works are progressing smoothly stating that to date approximately 25.63 km of the selected township roads in the district have been rehabilitated and upgraded to bituminous standard.
Mr. Simukoko added that township roads worked on so far in Chinsali include Choshi road, Chinsali Girls access road, and the road to Chinsali Skills Center through to Farmers Training Center ( FTC) area. Others are Chandamali, Kabuta, Mayard, Location, Chinunda, Rural compound, Kapwepwe township and Mwaba area. “It should be noted that the project includes asphalt concrete surfacing of the roads, construction of culverts and drainages, provision of road markings, setting up of traffic signs and other safety features among other works to be done,” Said Mr Simukoko.
He added that the upgrading and rehabilitation road project which is anticipated to be completed by June, 2023 will help enhance socio-economic development in Chinsali district and the country at large. Mr. Simukoko further says the over 500 million kwacha project once completed, the district will change its face.

Muchinga Province is located in the northeast of the country and was created in the year 2011 after detaching it from mother province – Northern Province. The name of the province originates from the Muchinga Escarpment; on which it predominantly sits. The province elongates from southwest to northeast and is located on both sides of the Muchinga Mountains (Muchinga Escarpment).
